How to Install Git on Mac
Install Git with Homebrew
brew install gitInstall Git with MacPorts
sudo port selfupdate
sudo port install gitOfficial installer package
Step 1 - Download Git installer
Download the latest version of Git for Mac from the official website.
Step 2 - Install the package
Open the DMG file you downloaded and double-click the package installer (.pkg) to start the installation process.
Follow the installation wizard:
- Click “Continue” on the introduction screen
- Read and accept the license agreement
- Choose the installation destination (typically Macintosh HD)
- Enter your administrator password when prompted
- Click “Install” to begin the installation
Step 3 - Verify the installation
Open Terminal and run:
git --versionIf this outputs the current version, the installation was successful.
